Balloon sinuplasty is an outpatient, endoscopic treatment that does not involve cutting through bone or tissue. Here’s how it works:

• A very thin catheter with a deflated balloon attached to the end is gently inserted into the inflamed sinus cavity.
• The balloon is inflated to expand the sinus opening, allowing fluids to drain and pressure to be released.
• If necessary, saline is sprayed to help clean and flush out the sinus cavity.
• The catheter is gently removed and the sinus cavity remains open.
